Having a tribal code allows a Tribe the opportunity to govern its people in a manner that upholds the community’s values and ways of life. Many Alaska Tribes have codes addressing child welfare, domestic violence, trespass, Elder protection, and other topics essential to maintaining internal relations between their citizens. And some Tribes have gone a step further and used their codes to help embrace and memorialize their communities’ foundational values and traditions.
In this webinar from the Alaska Native Justice Center, you will get a closer look at how Tribes can incorporate customs and traditions into their codes to exercise sovereignty, support community values, and nurture language preservation.
