Did you know that Tribal documents are treated differently than states’ documents in federal courts? Join ANJC’s “Tribal Records in Federal Court: What Tribes Need to Know” webinar and learn about a proposed change to federal treatment of records and documents from federally recognized Tribes.
In federal court, documents must be authenticated before being considered by the judge. Federal Rule of Evidence (FRE) 902 addresses documents from entities considered “self-authenticating.” Historically, this has excluded all Tribes, including Alaska Native Tribes, and requires additional evidence to prove authenticity of Tribal documents in federal cases. An amendment to this rule is being considered that would include federally recognized Tribes as entities whose documents are self-authenticating.
Join this webinar on November 13 to learn about why this amendment has been proposed, how it could impact Alaska Native Tribes, and how your Tribe can submit comments for or against this proposal.
